Productive Villagers

The Productive Villagers mod completely changes how villagers function by making them far more useful for survival and long–term gameplay. Instead of simply trading, villagers now take on practical jobs that can benefit the player even when you are busy with other tasks. At the center of this system is the workstation depot, a special block crafted with six wooden planks, two wooden slabs, and one emerald. Think of it as a magical barrel—when placed beside existing workstations, it unlocks new powers and skills for villagers nearby.

Any unemployed villager who takes on a profession at a depot–enabled station will immediately gain new tasks. Even villagers who already had jobs will upgrade their routines to include these enhanced abilities. This means you can retrofit existing villages and transform them into bustling hubs of activity. If you like customization, the mod also allows you to edit the configuration file so that villagers can perform unique or altered tasks according to your preference.

For example, placing a depot next to a grindstone allows a Weaponsmith to repair swords and tridents. All you need to do is provide the broken tools plus one emerald per repair. Similarly, the Armorsmith can fix damaged armor pieces at their station. These features give villagers real value beyond trading, making them allies in your journey.

If you attach a depot to a composter, a Farmer will automatically deposit crops while bonemeal is collected in the barrel. A Fisherman will occasionally request a fishing rod and then gather fish and treasure, storing the loot in the depot while keeping a portion for payment. The Butcher, on the other hand, requires an iron axe and one emerald per harvest but offers a unique perk—he can collect meat and mob resources without killing the creatures.

This balance of cost and reward makes every villager profession worthwhile. While they continue their normal trading tasks, the added productivity ensures that your village becomes self–sufficient. Imagine weapons being repaired while you mine, or food being gathered while you explore distant lands. It’s a small change, but it gives Minecraft an entirely new rhythm.
